Make every solo basketball session measurable
Use makes, game-relevant locations and one repeatable challenge to turn solo practice into visible progress.
5 min readA solo session becomes more useful when the target is clear. Counting makes, defining locations and repeating the same closing challenge gives you something meaningful to compare next time.
Prepare for the floor
Begin with easy movement, controlled changes of direction and close-range shooting. Increase pace only after your landings and stops feel organised. Use a safe surface and stop if pain changes your movement.
- Easy movement
- Controlled stops and pivots
- Close-range touch
Count what matters
For shooting blocks, count makes rather than attempts. Select a small number of locations that fit your role and use the same number of makes at each. For handling, track clean repetitions or time without losing posture.
- Makes from defined spots
- Clean weak-hand repetitions
- Rest before quality drops
Keep one benchmark
Finish with the same short challenge each week, such as makes from several spots within a fixed time. Record the result and one technical note. Change the benchmark only after enough sessions to see a pattern.
Progress gradually, use a safe training area and suitable protective equipment, and stop if you feel pain. Seek qualified coaching or medical guidance when needed.
